FAQ

What should I wear?
  • Hiking boots or stable sneakers (no sandals!)
  • T-shirt, shorts or athletic pants depending on the weather. Remember, you’ll also be getting a Hike t-shirt for raising the $120 minimum.
  • Sweatshirt or jacket (in case it gets cooler later on in the day). Look at the weather forecast.
  • Sunscreen
  • Make sure everything you wear is comfortable!
What should I bring?
  • Sponsor form with signed waiver- this is required for you to be able to hike
  • All your collected money (it’s okay to have your parent/guardian write one check for all the cash you collect)
  • Bug spray
  • Water or Gatorade (there will be water at stops along the hike, but you may also want to have your own)
  • Money for food or CDs
*There will not be a place to store your things while you hike, so everything you bring you need to carry with you!
What can’t I bring?
No bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, etc. You’re hiking on your feet! Firearms, alcoholic beverages and pets are also prohibited.
What if I don’t register by May 6th?
You can still hike! Just send in your registration as soon as possible. However, we won’t be able to guarantee you a t-shirt if you register after May 6th.
Is there a rain date?
No. We’re hiking rain or shine! If it rains, just remember to pack a poncho or raincoat! In case of severe weather, check the website or our voicemail at 617-929-1037.
How can my parents/guardians get in touch with me?
It will be difficult for your parents to reach you during the event. If your parents need to be able to reach you, arrange to bring a cell phone. For emergencies only, call the DCR Park Ranger dispatch at (617) 722-1188.
What if I can’t make it the day of the event?
Although you’ll miss out on all the fun at the Blue Hills, you can still collect money and you’re eligible for most of the prizes. All you need to do is walk or hike 3 miles somewhere, and send in your registration form and money you collected (postmarked by June 4th). We’ll mail you your prize!
Do I have to hike in order to participate?
If hiking's really not your thing, that's okay! You can still participate in the fundraiser and come to the concert. You'll need to register the morning of the hike along with the hikers, and can hang out at the concert area while others are hiking.
Is parking available?
There is limited parking available at the DCR Blue Hills Ski Area. You should carpool or get a group together to come in your school or church bus or van if possible. Parking options will be clearly marked on the day of the event. Check back for more information closer to June 4th.
How should my sponsors make out their checks?
Checks should be made out to Healthy Futures. All donations are tax deductible.
My mom's worried about my safety. What can I tell her?
  • There will be EMTs, nurses and an amublance on site in the unlikely event that you should you get hurt.
  • We will have several water stations on the trails to make sure everyone stays hydrated.
  • The event is closed to the public. All participants must have a colored wrist band allowing them access to the trails and concert area.
  • Volunteers are all over 18 and have had a background CORI check; they will have a special "staff" wristband so they can be easily identified.
  • There will be state troopers and park rangers on site helping with the event.
I have more questions. How can I ask them?
